Seventeen Children

I just stumbled across the website of a family with 17 children - all born since 1988! And to make family matters even more chaotic, all 17 children have names beginning with "J":

Joshua, John David, Janna, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, and Jennifer.

(My Mom had a hard enough time keeping Emily, Sarah, Jonathan, and Christopher straight when she wanted to call one of us!)

Every child in the family plays the violin and the piano, and some of them play the harp as well.

Oh, and the Duggars plan to have more kids. Lots more.

Mr. and Mrs. Duggar are both real estate agents, and they make enough money for the family to have an absolutely amazing house - check out the family photo album. And when they're not selling real estate or changing diapers, I have a pretty good guess as to what they're doing...

  1. Do they really want to have MORE? I thought they were sort of done now. At some point she'll stop being fertile, right?

That family is a lightening rod for press attention. I wouldn't want to have that big a family just because of that problem.

  2. I read an interview where they said that yes, they want more children... something about enough for two baseball teams.

I was thinking the same thing as I read that... the family has really put themselves in the public eye, and that can't be easy for the kids because I'm sure they receive quite a bit of criticism for their family's choices.

The names are just nuts... first of all, the similarity between "Joy-Anna" and "Johanna" must be maddenning. Secondly, "Jinger"???

  3. Also, sigh, can't they give their poor daughters haircuts from the proper decade?

Wow! More than "adequate space for entertaining" and, more than an adequate number of children. They do look happy in their industrial kitchen. Wonder if there is a drain in the floor---to clean it after meals. That would have been my dream.

  5. Didn't anyone notice the side-by-side toilets?

  6. Yeah, their kitchen is amazing. It seemed like they had restaurant-style heating lamps over the kitchen counters, too... almost like an all-you-can-eat place.

Yeah Katie, I noticed the toilets and found that *really* bizarre. Really, really disturbing. Maybe for the twins? hahaha.

  7. if you look closely at the toilets, one is a regular sized one and one is a tiny one. they have them in the kindergarten bathrooms in elementary schools. i bet it is for the younger children....not for them to go at the same time :)
